Becoming a Chartered Accountant in Ontario

Chartered Accountants are in high demand in public practice accounting firms, in corporations, in all sizes of businesses, and in the public sector.

In public practice, CAs spend their time dealing with clients, meeting with managers, auditing financial statements, providing advice on tax, estate and financial planning, and providing valuable consulting and advisory services across a variety of disciplines, including corporate finance, recover and insolvency, mergers and acquisitions, business valuations, risk management and controls, as well as providing sound business management advice.

In corporations large and small, CAs frequently hold management and executive positions.  They may be CFOs, controllers, vice-presidents of finance or even CEOs.  The broad scope of their business training provides them with an exceptional breadth of knowledge and experience, allowing them to succeed as owners of their own businesses.

CAs are also found in government positions, including auditors general, controllers general, public servants and deputy ministers.  Their skills are often utilized to manage government programs and provide insight to business matters within the various sectors of government bodies.

Finally, CAs of today are preparing CAs of tomorrow through academic positions they hold within post-secondary educational institutions and associated programs.  They are known internationally for their integrity, professionalism, and excellence through training and work experience.
